Is death the marketing tool for African musicians to be heard?

It is sad that we only get to hear the greatness of a person or appreciate their talent after they are dead and gone.

Sazzy (Osaze Omonbude), an aspiring Nigerian artist/ producer who had a unique style in his music, fusing Afro beat, hip-hop, pop and dance together passed away October 23rd, 2010 after an illness. What is sad is why do we only get to hear more of a person after he/she is dead and gone? Why do we not hear them loud enough when they are alive?  Sazzy seems to be the unique artist who would have gone further.  The month prior to that, DaGrin who was also destined for greatness had his life cut short from a car accident, an up and coming artist who also got heard internationally after his death.  There is a topic at hand to be discussed. Is Death the marketing tool for African musicians to be heard?

Sazzy will be missed and remembered for his tracks ” love am dem go” and “mr Chairman“. Africa and the world have lost a great and gifted producer/singer/song writer . May his soul rest in peace and may God bring comfort to his family, friends and fans.

The question is what do we do next ?

Mnet, MTV Base and other medias have done a great job in connecting and promoting African music, but is that enough? Do we need to come up with more marketing and creative ideas of our own?
How can we put the great voices of Africa and the diaspora out there, to be heard more than they do?
