Rapper Nas on amputee victims of the Liberian civil war

Rapper and actor Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, aka Nas, couldn’t contain his excitement when he found out he won a National Sports Emmy for his ESPN documentary “Survival 1.” In accepting the award, Nas proclaimed “After all these years of making music, I am honoured to have this be the first award I ever won of this magnitude. An Emmy before a Grammy. Crazy (bleep)!”

Nas directed, narrated and scored the music for the documentary that follows two amputee victims of the Liberian civil war, who despite extreme adversity, were able to form a soccer team and eventually became champions.

While Nas has been producing acclaimed and inspirational music for decades now, he has been unable to garner the accolades he deserves.  Congrats to Nas on his momentous win. It is well deserved!
